D.I.Y denim cutoff tutorial.

D.I.Y Denim cutoffs.

First of all.
You will need

  • A pair of jeans you want to cutoff
  • A measuring tape
  • Tailors or white chalk
  • Scissors
  • Needle and thread(Optional)

First turn your jeans inside out, then measure three or four inches (depending on how short you want your cutoffs) from the rise ( the inner leg)

mark with your chalk.

On one leg you then draw a curved dotted line to the other side of the leg, this is so it's all neat.
Carefully cut along your dotted line with sharp scissors making sure to cut as smooth as possible to avoid zigzags in your cutoff.

Now fold your jeans in half one leg on top of the other, with the chalk trace your cut leg onto the other with a dotted line so they will be the same length, cut along the dotted line again carefully to avoid zigzags.

Turn your jeans outside in and try on to make sure that you like the length.
If you want a frayed look simply put at the exposed threads at the end of your new cutoffs.

As an added measure I decided to stitch the seams of my new cutoffs to strengthen them and to stop them coming lose. I also decided to give a distressed look.
And finally wash them and enjoy.

What I've learnt form this D.I.Y

Don't use jeans with elastic in the material, the label usually tells you whether or not it will. tip here use real denim
Take your time and don't rush you'll only mess it up and end up with them being too short.
Make sure the scissors your using are sharp enough.

Do hope you enjoyed this D.I.Y tutorial.
